January 25, 2023

Stepping into a boardroom as the only woman in tech is not always a walk in the park, but with role models, mentors, and sponsors by your side, you can show the world that technical greatness is not only for the boys. By embracing female leadership and management roles, you can set an example that promises great results are within reach for everyone. With amazing role models like Kavitha Shanmuga Sundaram, it’s clear that women possess both the talents and leadership skills to reach the top! With over 30 years of experience in functional safety and embedded systems, she proves that with the right mentors and sponsors, anyone can succeed.

Co-Gm, Autonomous Vehicle & Automotive Bu

She oversees the Coimbatore site of MulticoreWare and serves as the co-GM of the Autonomous Vehicle and Autonomous BU. “I joined MulticoreWare to explore how technology is changing and redefining mobility,” Kavitha explains. Kavitha talks about family, children and the daily challenges that women face. “Women are inherent jugglers, we constantly have to multi-task and ensure that all fronts run seamlessly, while having a smiling face. These situations make us a natural fit for management. Definitely, there are challenges. I have faced situations where I have to prepare for an important assignment, and there are client calls and my child is unwell. Still we manage, and ofcourse, an understanding organization that offers that kind of flexibility really helps. ”

She stated that MulticoreWare gave her a platform to investigate and work with cutting-edge technology. “My customers are manufacturing companies, and those that make software for the manufacturing companies. Whether it is cars or any machinery, we have to ensure a risk-free working environment. This area is called Functional Safety. I got certified in ISO 26262 and ensure that functional safety protocols are followed and carried out correctly.”

With the rise of autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicles, car sensors and cameras are essential components for ensuring safety and security. She went on to explain and said, “Cars have sensors such as cameras, radars and lidars. These help in navigating in tough weather conditions. Now, we are talking of driverless vehicles. Those are the vehicles of tomorrow. So I work with areas where we take data from different sensors and combine this data with algorithms, which make automated driving possible!”

The past few years have seen women in tech become a part of the conversation. They’re being recognized for their contributions, and it’s not just because they’re being hired into senior positions. Yes, it’s still a minority, but the fact that tech is seeing more women than ever is a sign that things are changing.

With advances in technology continuing to happen faster than the human mind can comprehend, it’s easy to see how advances in technology could build a better future for everyone. That is why MulticoreWare is committed to continuing to take a leadership role in diversity and inclusion in the tech industry.. By investing in female talent and helping create opportunities for these women to lead, we’re not just opening doors—we’re building bridges that enable us to cross over into a greater tomorrow.

We  hope this article has given you some insight into how women can make it in tech, and we hope that if you are a woman in tech, you feel encouraged to keep going, keep pushing yourself to new heights. There’s no limit to what you can achieve!
