Cybersecurity has become a critical concern for the automotive industry as vehicles have become increasingly connected and reliant on digital technologies and defined by the standards ISO 21434.

The integration of advanced features such as infotainment systems, autonomous driving capabilities, and vehicle-to-vehicle communication has introduced new vulnerabilities that can potentially be exploited.

WP.29’s safety vision acknowledges the importance of ensuring the safety of road users. WP.29 is a worldwide regulatory forum within the institutional framework of the United Nations.The newest WP.29 regulations address two key proposals for cybersecurity and software update regulations. While the regulation is aimed at manufacturers, its effects cascade to the entire supply chain and is relevant to all connected car stakeholders.

The ISO24089 is the newest standard for software update engineering as more and more vehicles will be expected to deploy Firmware Over The Air Update (FOTA) based on the standards and the guidelines provided by UNECE WP.29 R156.
